The Borana Livestock to Market Programme, launched in 2016, is a social enterprise supported by The Kenyan Market Trust and Borana Ranch Limited.
This programme allows members of our neighbouring communities to fatten their cattle on Borana. Six to eight months later, after grazing on the Conservancy and under Borana management, the animal is sold to market and the owner is paid the original entry value of the animal plus 80% of the weight gain value.
Borana retains 20% of the weight gain value to cover costs of grazing, veterinary and dipping for parasites. To date, their LTM programme has made sales worth 63,640,300/- directly benefiting 500 individuals, translating to 3,500 indirect beneficiaries.
